Anchorage Hotel & Dive Center
The Anchorage is located just south of Roseau on the waterfront.
But rather than a sandy beach, the entire complex is atop a seawall, leaving
a 6 foot wide rocky shore. The big advantage of the Anchorage is that
it's only a 15 minute boat ride to the most popular dive sites off Soufriere.
The 32 rooms are divided into standard and superior. All are air conditioned.
Standard rooms overlook the pool and have two twin beds. Deluxe rooms
are newer, larger, quieter, have more modern bathrooms and larger beds
along with a nice balcony that overlooks the ocean. The deluxe rooms are
well worth the slight additional cost.
The Anchorage Dive Center is based at the Anchorage Hotel and offers PADI
certification. The area right around their dock has some excellent snorkeling
and there is an excellent and shallow patch reef about 100 yards north
for shore dives. We've had great night dives there, seeing lots of crabs,
octopi and eels!
The Anchorage also has whale watching excursions. Whales are not guaranteed
but are seen about 80% of the time in season, which runs from November
through March. Sightings include sperm whales, orcas, false killer whales,
pilot whales along with spotted and bottlenose dolphins.
On Thursday evenings there is a manager's cocktail party with free munchies
and rum punch or wine along with live music.
