Kona Aggressor II
The Big Island's volcanic underwater topography is a diver's wonderland. Lava tubes, bommies, arches and huge craters like “Au Au Crater,” create a spectacular backdrop for Hawaii’s many indigenous species of buttlerfly fish. Photographers will delight in the many patient subjects like Spanish Dancers, turtles, mantas and frogfish. The standard Kona Aggressor II scuba itinerary is Saturday-to-Saturday with five and one-half days of diving. Guests may board Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Dinner is served on board Saturday evening followed by the Captain’s briefing. Friday afternoon, the Kona Aggressor II returns to Kailua-Kona Bay. Guests may spend the afternoon shopping, sight seeing or just relaxing on board until the evening cocktail party hosted by the crew. After the party, everyone will dine at a local restaurant. This is the only meal not included in the charter. Saturday morning check-out is 8:00 a.m.
The Kona Aggressor II is an 80-foot, 10-passenger catamaran built and powered for comfort, safety and stability. She is diesel-powered, cruises at 18 knots and has 110-volt power on board. The Kona Aggressor II has a wide 28-foot beam.
Five
luxurious, air-conditioned staterooms are located on the main level off
the salon. Each carpeted stateroom features a queen-sized bed with single
berth above, a vanity with lavatory, a large window, individual climate
control and private head and shower. Some cabins have wider doors to accommodate
wheelchairs. All staterooms open onto the large salon, which includes
the dining area and galley. The air-conditioned salon is attractively
furnished and designed for comfort and relaxation. It includes an entertainment
center with TV, VCR and stereo with compact disc player. A slide projector,
screen and built-in light table make slide view easy. The salon's comfortable
seating arrangement and presentation equipment make it a great room for
lectures and meetings.
Exiting
the salon and traveling toward the stern of the Kona Aggressor II, guests
enter the large dive deck. This
is the area where divers suit up and prepare their gear. Each diver has
his own personal dive station complete with seat and locker. All tanks
are filled in place with either air or nitrox. There are several 80-cubic-foot
cylinders on board. After donning their gear, divers take a few steps
down the ladders to the dive platforms, which are only a few inches from
the water. Entries are made easily with a giant stride and exiting is
simple with the aid of two ladders that extend underwater. Two freshwater
rinse showers and fin racks are conveniently located on the dive platforms.
A dive briefing area, camera table with low-pressure air hoses, camera
rinse tank, head and water fountain are all part of the roomy dive deck.
A
few steps up from the dive deck is everyone's favorite spot, the sun deck.
This partially shaded deck offers guests a large sunning area complete
with deck chairs, chaise lounges, a shaded wet bar with soda dispenser
and a soothing hot tub. Bar side stools and tables are available for top
side dining and gatherings. The cook will tempt you with mouth-watering
dishes grilled on the gas grill located in the aft section of the deck.
The E-6 photo lab is on the upper level also near the crew's quarters.
The Kona Aggressor II is a handicapped-accessible live-aboard, complete with Handicapped Scuba Association (HSA) certified instructors and dive buddies, a specially-designed electric incline lift and shower stalls with seats. Dive lockers, tank racks, low gunwales and retractable ladders all help assure everyone's carefree diving. The Kona Aggressor II was the first live-aboard to receive a Five Star rating by the Handicapped Scuba Association. The Fiji Aggressor is also a barrier-free live-board.
